UNPAID PRINT AT PLOTTERS PROS!

There is a board at Plotter Pros that as of last night was not claimed and not paid for. He will not deliver it tomorrow if the balance isn't paid. It has the Coca-Cola and the Alzheimer projects. I believe this is Lisa's. I just wanted to give her a head's up. If anybody has her number can they call her and let her know?
Thanks,
See you all bright and early tomorrow!

Velcro

Remember to buy velcro! Each person needs 10 ft, so 20 ft per structure. But buy more if you would like for back up, up to you.

Thanks,

Projects on CDs

Hey Class,

This is a reminder to put all of your work on CDs and to bring them on Thursday!

Ashly Vineyard will be collecting these.

When saving the files, print your projects as PDFs. If you print as PDF instead a Save As PDF, it will make the files smaller. Do whatever you can to get your files small.

Thanks everyone, see you Thursday am!!

Velco + Tablecloths

Hey guys-

Not sure if you guys checked an earlier comment I posted about this but...
Velco- check store called Fabrics R Us
1745 Berryessa Rd
San Jose, CA 95133
(408) 929-4330

$2 per yard for thinner Velco, $2.50 per yard for 1". We need about 6.5 yards so that would be around $17

Tablecloths- I have 6 54"x102" white ones. Giving it to Ashly

109 Curtain Wall Board

Hey Guys,

The total printing and mounting cost was $105. I have generously received $50 from a few people. If those who haven't contributed anything and took 109 last semester could chip in $5 to $10 Thursday that would be really wonderful and a help to me.

Thanks,
Montana

NO BIG HEAVY PANELS!

Hey guys have decided to not use the heavy white panels to put our boards on. We are just going to velcro our foam core boards to the metal posts. Diana agrees with this as well. It will make set up and break down. Here is a pic of what it will look like, kinda.

Update on Today

Hey Class,

So today we cleaned the rest of the boards, went over how to put the structures together, started putting the tables together, and labeled the 15 chairs we will be bringing.

We still need to:

  • Adjust the table legs to the correct height
  • Make individual boxes
  • Get velcro with your structure partner (hold off on this until Amy gets back to me on a place where it might be cheap, but remember, we need about 20 ft each to be safe
  • Buy table cloths (hold off on this until Amy gets back to me on the size of the ones she has)
  • Tape of structure legs so we know where to put in the brackets
Schedule for day of
  • Be in classroom at 9AM
  • Set up by 3pm
  • Return to Rotunda by 5:30pm
  • Remember to bring a CD of all your work with name on it
Whether we use the big white boards or not is still in the air. Later today, Anna will bring her board in to see how it will work. She will take pictures so we can all see.

I think that's all for now, but keep checking in!

Thanks everyone,
Jenni

Boards

Hey guys,

We finished painting all of the boards today (thanks, everyone who helped)! YAY

See you all tomorrow for some more board cleaning, assembly instructions and table assembly.

109 Curtain Wall

My fellow hardworking students!

I am currently putting a presentation board together for the 109 curtain wall design, as this was a class project. If those who took 109 last semester would be willing to contribute a couple of bucks towards the cost of printing and mounting that would be really wonderful - otherwise I was going to pay for it. It's a great chance to showcase our hardwork and a design/build project.

Please bring a few bucks on Friday.

Thanks!

Printing your Boards

Hi Class,

We would like everyone to have their boards printed no later than Tuesday at Plotter Pros since I had Peter order specially cut down foam core just for us.

Since these boards are so big, Peter is willing to store these boards and deliver them to the school next Wednesday. This is sooooo helpful! So please, everyone have your boards ready.

See most of you tomorrow!

Important Reminders!!

Hello Class,

We are almost there!! But we really need everyone's help in order to be completely prepared for our big night!! Please try and adjust your schedules to be here on the following dates, but if you cannot make it, please let us know.

Wednesday 18th: Be here at 3pm to move and clean boards.

Friday 20th: Be here at 9:30am for normal class time. We will be taking attendance for this. Garrett will be doing a demo on how to set up the structures, so EVERYONE really needs to be in class because each person is responsible for their own set-up.

Thursday 26th: Everyone needs to meet in the classroom at 9am. We need to have a meeting about the schedule for the day, and we need to have time to load the Uhaul so we can be ready to set up at City Hall right when 11am hits.

Unfortunately, only a small group of us stayed in class today to get the boards painted. These boards need multiple coats, so it takes a while. Anyone who can come to class any day next week, please let us know by commenting on this blog so we can try to get a group for multiple days next week.

Again, please communicate with us. And remember, people who are not helping/participating are being noted and this can affect your grade.

Thanks,
Jenni

MC postions

Hey so,

I wanted everyone to be able to voice their opinions about who should be MC'ing at the show. It seems the students didnt really get a chance to vote. So now is your chance to vote for who should represent us as students. There will be one male and one female MC. Garrett (me) will be the male MC and the choices for female came down to Ashly and Jenni. So cast your vote for female MC.

Ashly

Jenni

I just want to let everyone know that the website is still under construction.
The Bios are being fixed because it appears to be over-lapping in some computers (such as the Macs)...Yahoo is fixing this problem and hopefully it will be ready to view in the correct form within few days. I will inform everyone to view their bio + images to confirm if everything looks good.

Final Boards

This is to everyone and anyone, just a general question,
I know we've discussed the final board, but I was wondering if anyone has finalized with plotter pros if he is supplying museum board or gator board to mount for our final printing and if he has prices on that? Just curious!

Song Requests

Hello everyone! I was just talking to the leader of the jazz band that we are having perform at the show. He was wondering if there were any particular songs people would WANT to hear or even request NOT to hear. Please give me feedback so I can let the band know what kind of songs everyone had in mind! Thanks so much, Brianna

WINE?!!

Hello everyone~
I'm on the food & beverages committee and want to propose an idea...
WHAT IF WE CUT OUT THE WINE?
I know, I know, thats the most exciting part :)
BUT heres the problem:
Because City Hall has such tight rules and restrictions, even if we were able to get our entire beverage selection donated, the service fee would still be over $2,000. The cheapest beverage caterer I spoke to said that the service alone (this is NOT including drinks) is somewhere around $2,500 because of all the external costs (travel time, set up, break down, clean up, bartenders, etc.).
We will still be serving amazing food! I just feel that the wine might be too excessive, especially with our $2,200 deficit as it is. ALSO, the $500 we would be saving from the wine, we could put towards our debt.

What does everything think? Feedback please!

Student volunteer for Senior Show

Hello everyone,

In respond to student volunteer for the senior show, here is the report of the current situation.
I was thinking having 30 volunteers as for the goal, and currently we have 15 students signed up.
I will be sending out emails to remind the 15 helpers about the day.

Since I haven't reach my desire number of volunteers, I will be talking to classes, such as 104 + 108, to get more people to sign up. Also, I want to try asking the current helpers and see if they have friends who are interested too.

Any suggestions or question?

Thanks
Alex

Senior Show Financial Budget

Hello Everyone, Hope all of you had a great spring break! I wanted to inform you all our financial status for the Senior Show. I know I made announcement in class about our current deficit but I would like to remind you again that our deficit is about $2,200.00. This amount includes our last needed payment for the Rotunda which is $2,100.00 plus all other miscillaneous expenses such as additional counters for the event ($300 for three counters) and an emergency amount which is needed to be set aside. Are total budget is $12,033.90 which includes all current donations and reimbursements. However, our total expenses for the show is $14, 200.00. The financial and donation teams are doing our best to avoid requiring another payment from all the students but if we do not receive enough donations we are required to do so. If we are not able to rise enough money to cover our deficit we will ask students to make another payment of $50 or more. Although we are waiting for more donations to come in, We would appreciate it if you could please do your part and help out the donation team to come up with other ideas or avenues to raise money. I also mentioned to Montana that for those who have already finished an internship or is currently working as an intern, students could possibly inform your past or current intern employer about our show and see if they could possibly donate. Please contact me at Racheldala@gmail.com if you have any questions, concerns, or ideas to help out. Once again thank you for understanding and cooperation. Your Senior Show Treasurer, Rachel Marie Dala

New Website Templates

Hi Everyone,

here are the new website templates...
the first image shows the new home page
the second image is an example of how the Designers page will look like: each box is for each designer...here are some of the things that you guys can give some feed back asap. There are 4 different examples of how our photo and our names would be displayed (before clicking and going to each designers page)...you can decide by saying ( you like option1, option2, option3, or option4 (which is how it would be shown if someone has a long first and last name))...or if you like all of them just to make it more creative and show how each one of us has his/her own style we can keep all 4 options (which means each person will have their name displayed different . Again, since we are designers and each one of us has his/her own style) so if you guys like that idea you can say option 5 (which is keep it as is...with all 4 options).  There is another thing we can do, we can put the First name and the Last name initial...Please let me know in this Blog your feedback so we can try and finish it during this spring break and would be ready to launch it so everyone can see it and test the website.

Some Reminders:
1. For those who still need to send me their project images...Please try and send me 2 of your best project images as a PDF ASAP within 3 days...deadline was supposed to be today but please try and do it. send it to sdeanza@yahoo.com so we can have it ready in the website.

2. Anna, can you please let me know when are the photos will be ready so we can start putting them in.

3. Elizabeth or who is responsible for the Bios, can you please let me know when are they ready to be sent to me so we can start putting them in the website!...if they are all ready, can you please send them as a word document in sdeanza@yahoo.com .

Please guys, we are trying to get this ready during this spring break so we can have it set and everyone can check the final site before we launch it.

Thank you :) and hope you guys have a great spring break:))

Please come dressed for pictures at 915am to take your portrait. If the weather permits, we will be able to take the group picture outside.

As for the individual portraits (I know it might rain tomorrow), so as a back up Diana suggested that we could take it in Brian's office against the white wall, plus there will be indirect lighting. Even if its an overcast day, we can still take it.

Thanks!

DSIT 111 5/25

Hello Class,

Class was very productive yesterday regarding our Senior Show. I have lots of information, so read carefully please.
Also, Ashly set up a Google calendar with due dates for everything, so please refer to the calendar as much as possible. The url is https://www.google.com/calendar/render?cid=c2pzdS5kc2l0LnNlbmlvcnNob3dAZ21haWwuY29t&invEmailKey=j.tankard@yahoo.com:ffd40c46f4baf85c1115bf3551e2a2510d42d00d&pli=1&gsessionid=Um14n_OZDu9n599oVYY2PA.

Photos:
We took pictures yesterday, but some of you have not yet taken a picture. If you are on the list below, you must get you picture taken by March 25th. If you do not have a professionally taken picture by then, you will have to pay a fine of $25 towards the Senior Show. You will have a chance to make up pictures on March 18th when we take our group photos. For individual pictures you must wear a nice black shirt, and the photo must be in black and white.
  • Hannah
  • Brian
  • Amy
  • Paige
  • Guin
  • Montana
  • Jenny
  • Sam
  • Alex
  • (may be one more person, let me know f you did not take a picture and are not on this list)

Catering:
We have chosen Zanotto's as our caterer. Stephanie finalized this with City Hall yesterday. She has posted a narrowed down list of food e can choose to have at our event. Please respond to her post with your top 5.
  • Stephanie: Find out how much notice Zanotto's needs for our final list on the food we choose.
  • Ashley S/Melissa V: Work on getting wine donations

Set-Up:
We decided on the set up of our boards. Garrett found a great system from IKEA that will hold the 7' boards horizontally. Each system will hold 2 of these boards, so 2 people will have their projects back to back on each system. The frame for the system will also hold a white board at waist height so we can place our portfolios, resumes, models, etc. The set-up looks amazing! Now that we know the set-up, we now know our board sizes. They will be 36"x7'.
  • Garrett: Find out what each board needs. How many lights, cords, etc. Work closely with space planners (Xin/Gordie) on this. Also, please find out who rents out the boards before us so we can talk to them about cleaning the boards/keeping them clean.
  • Elizabeth T: Find out the cost of a Uhaul truck for 2 days, plus insurance, gas, etc.
  • Jenni, Ashley S, Elizabeth T: Find out if you can bring in a 10ft ladder to store at school until our show.
  • Sam/Sakiko: Find out how much we have of each kind of light
  • Junsin/Diana: Look into white wires. Find out the lengths, the price, and how we can tape down the wires without it looking unattractive. Work with space planners (Xin/Gordie).
  • Keith: Find a material and the price of that and spray paint so you can make a stencil on the laser cutter. We need to label our chairs in white with "SJSU Interior Design".
  • Jenni: Find out what time we can start setting up on the day of the show.

Letters/Donations:
Make sure you get the rest of the donation letters sent out. Remember to ask John about when we should get the invitations sent out by.

Graphics:
  • Tamara/Anna: Get the price of gator board and foam core. We need these materials for the logo of the places that donated and for frames for our portraits. Also check out the prices of frames at IKEA vs. Aaron Brothers (remember we could get a discount from Aaron Brothers). Look into prices for printing out post cards with our logo on it, and for 11x17 posters. (We only need 4 posters, but about 250 post cards). Please be ready to present graphics next week.
  • Melanie: Start bringing a camera and taking pictures of people working on the Senior Show.
  • Melanie/Melissa N: Collect pictures that people have from past classes.

Flowers:
  • Jenny: Find out what type of flowers we should use, where we are ordering them from, and how much it would be.

Website:
  • Suzy: Look into prices of yahoo vs. intuit, and what your husband feels most comfortable with. We would like to have this website up for 6 months.

Bios:
  • Elisabeth B/Crystal: Make sure you get everyone's bios, and proof read all of them. Let me know if you still do not receive bios from people.

Space Planning:
  • Xin/Gordie: Have the preliminary done by March 11.

DSIT 111(Everyone):
  • Start working on boards (36"x7')
  • Work on portfolios, resumes, teaser, business cards, cover letters
  • Gather any class pictures from past classes and send to Melanie(xmaeleni04@yahoo.com) or Melissa N(mellii151@msn.com)
  • Get bios turned in

I know this is a lengthy email, but please pay close attention to the blog and calendar. If you have any questions please email me.

Thanks everyone,
Jenni

Reminder for 2/25

Hey class,

Remember to get to the classroom at 9AM next week for pictures. Wear a nice black top. We are not doing the group photo next week, so don't worry about what pants and shoes you wear.

Continue making revisions to resumes, portfolios, etc., and print out hard copies.

Also, make sure you get those bios turned into Crystal and Elisabeth.

Thanks,
Jenni
